Opticam is being developed as a specialist South African classifieds platform where equipment can be described accurately, buyers can search by relevant technical characteristics, and users can build a reliable transaction history.
Pilot testing notice
Opticam is currently an experimental pilot platform.
Listings and user functions are being tested. Opticam does not currently receive payments, hold funds, arrange deliveries or guarantee transactions. Buyers and sellers remain responsible for inspecting equipment, agreeing on payment and completing any exchange safely.
No firearms, ammunition or other controlled weapons may be advertised. Optical equipment such as binoculars, spotting scopes and riflescopes may be listed.

How the pilot works
- Create an account
- Register using a valid email address. List an item
- Add photographs, the item’s condition, location and asking price. Browse and make contact
- Search available equipment and contact the seller directly. Complete the transaction independently
- During the pilot, buyers and sellers arrange inspection, payment, delivery and handover themselves.
What we are testing
- Whether users can create accounts easily.
- Whether sellers can submit clear and accurate listings.
- Whether buyers can find relevant equipment quickly.
- Whether the equipment categories are useful.
- Whether wanted listings would help connect buyers and sellers.
- Whether users feel comfortable contacting one another through the platform.
- What features or safeguards should be added before a wider launch.

Opticam is still being developed. Pilot users will be invited to report problems, suggest improvements and identify the features needed to make the platform useful, trustworthy and easy to use.
